Round 2 Training Materials

Page history last edited by Carri George 1 year, 6 months ago

Round 2 Training focused on helping the CHIRP groups get "unstuck." Often, this involved reviewing their vision and setting more focused and manageable goals. For groups who had not become "stuck," Round 2 provided an opportunity to explore where they wanted to go next.

Training and technical assistance in this round was intended to focus on helping CILs take on the role of consultant and developing consulting skills. CILs would be encouraged to adopt a business model and market their services to agencies and organizations that would potentially be willing to pay for them. In practice, most of the CHIRP groups were not ready for this next step and the Round 2 meetings dealt more with reviewing meeting facilitation skills, elements of successful collaboration and narrowing the focus of their projects

Objectives for CHIRP Round 2 Training

By the end of this training,

We will have acknowledged and celebrated our collaboration successes and goal achievement during the past year.

We will understand the status of our collaboration, including contributions made by all members, roles, strengths and weakness.

We will be aware of the weaknesses in our collaboration and will have developed strategies for addressing those weaknesses.

We will have tools that will assist us in managing projects and identifying resources to support our goals.

We will have identified the next specific action steps to take in order to successfully implement our goals.

We will have tools for sharing what we have learned from our collaboration and our successes with other CHIRP groups and we will be excited about sharing with and learning from other groups.

Project Management

1. Visualize: Create a project by starting with your vision statement.

2. Plan: Break project into manageable pieces.

3. Implement: Monitor and control – communicate, delegate, document.

4. Close: Evaluate the project.

Approach project management implementation by doing it in HUNKS, CHUNKS, and BITES so you do not become overwhelmed!

Six Thinking Hats

Use the SIX THINKING HATS to move the whole group forward in exploring new ideas and making decisions; avoiding impasses and confusion when participants bring emotions, information, logic, hope, judgment, and creativity in the exploration process all at the same time.

Red Flag Technique

When vital disagreements occur, either set a time for or have a respectful lively discussion within a set time (example for a ½ hour).  If a compromise/agreement is not reached RED FLAG the issue and decide to give everyone time to think about it and when to revisit.  When revisit – use this technique again.  Signs of deep disagreements arising and escalating during discussion: people are all talking at once, people are talking over each other, a feeling a frustration is occurring, not feeling heard, etc.
