Reaching My Own Greatness (RMOG) is an interactive curriculum developed by People First of Washington.
This curriculum focuses on individual growth and self-determination, based on the premise that people who receive services need to be leaders. RMOG assists in building communication, leadership, and planning skills for self-advocacy.
Designed to be almost entirely activity-based, the curriculum is especially effective with individuals who have communication difficulties, such as non-English speakers, individuals with literacy problems, and individuals with disabilities that affect their ability to express themselves.
The modules are designed to help participants identify what they want to do, what barriers they might face, and strategies to deal with those barriers. These skills will be especially helpful to students setting goals for their transition to adult roles and responsibilities.
RMOG is based on peer interaction, and people with disabilities are the trainers.
RMOG was included in the CHIRP curriculum in order to give CILs a place to start in developing a program for young people with disabilities in transition. RMOG can be used to develop independent living or transition plans. Our intent was that each CIL would have an RMOG training team made up of young people with disabilities and CIL staff. The capacity to provide this program in the schools or local VR offices brings a much needed component to the local transition network.
